Just as any other sport, steroids are used in baseballs by players. Though we have heard a lot about steroids, most of us are unaware of what steroids are or what the side effects of using steroids are.

Steroids are the synthetic male version of the hormone testosterone. This hormone is responsible for the growth and the development of muscles. When hormone testosterone is added to steroids much can be achieved such as muscle mass increase, endurance ability is improved, body fat is reduced and many more.

There are a number of reasons as to why baseball athletes want to have steroids. The major reason is that they believe they have an edge over other players and can help team win. They believe that they can hit harder and as further as possible due to intake of steroids.

There are a number of side effects of steroids. From psychologically point of view, a baseball athlete mood ranges from well-being mood to depression. The mood can change quickly from one to another. An athlete can have a violent and aggressive mood as well due to the side effects of steroids. The physical effect of steroids include increase in endurance, muscle mass but it can also have worst side effects such as damaged liver, cancer, acne problem, testicular atrophy, excessive hair loss and growth and many more.

Nowadays, athletes use it because they believe it to be the inevitable path leading to fame but little do they acknowledge the fact that the side effects that can lead to permanent disability. Thus, common man questions whether steroids are worth it considering the rewards and its risk. In the long run, no matter what, regular intake of steroids will harm the athlete.

Even in baseball history, you will find steroids controversies surrounding legendary players but no proof has come up to proof that these legendary players used steroids. There are many legendary players namely, Gary Sheffield, Barry Bonds, Mark Mcwire. Barry Bonds was accused of setting up a record number of home runs in one season with the help of steroids. It was believed that the steroids were provided to him by his close friend. Many questioned him whether steroids were used to set this record or was it Barry simply had a dream season.

Until there is no proof one cannot say whether an athlete has used steroids or not. Whether using or not, an athlete still has to face the ball and hit it to get runs.

Steroids can provide an athlete with many instant advantages such as fame, strength and other physical and mental strength and much more but steroids also give harmful risks. One’s safety cannot be compromised with the advantages. The side effects of steroids are very harmful and athlete should avoid using them as they are not worth their health. Baseball should be played with honor and achieve results with one’s own ability.
