Sports Head Injuries
There is that scene in that old flick Jerry Maguire where Cuba Gooding Jr. Gets knocked out cold in an especially assertive pro soccer maneuver in the arena, and everybody goes thru some breathless mins seeing if he is going to move again. This year’s Super Bowl just went by, and pro soccer events will occur round the year ; but about the very last thing that anybody seems to consider in the same context as the Super Bowl, is what quantity of a likelihood it is in pro soccer that a sports figure will suffer with a sports head injury.
Well, somebody’s concentrating. The North American Medical Association’s pro mag put out a brief virtually a century gone that claimed that even a single soccer style blow to the head, thru a helmet may cause what they call concussion hemorrhages. That was written a century gone, and only now have there been Congressional hearings into what happens long term sportsmen, pro or non-professional, who get head butted and so on. And allegedly there’s a lot that occurs.
Sportsmen finish up with wild annoyance issues, with walking in an uncoordinated fashion, and with finding it difficult to do elementary reasoning. Actually the all-macho NFL is issuing new rules this coming season to be sure that players who’ve had sports head injuries before, don’t come back to entice destiny again. They definitely take the “better late than never ” proverb seriously at the NFL, don’t they? They definitely hate to try this ; they only expounded this 2 months back, and already their brain injury expert, is taking it back and telling Congress the proof is not a lot more than anecdotal. But why go on research done by the medical organisation just about a century ago?
Research On Sports Head Injuries
Reputedly, the sort of research they did on damaged brains back then was so thorough, so complete, that there wasn’t any was no requirement ever to doubt what they went and did. The research took in 300 sportsmen, from fighting and soccer, who had expired from sports head wounds. They also looked at 2 dozen retired fighters whom anyone would call punchdrunk. They didn’t walk correctly, they didn’t talk correctly, and they actually didn’t think correctly. It seems like they were coming down with Alzheimer’s. A pair were even blind, almost. Why, we do know what’s happened to Mohammed Ali, don’t we? Allegedly, what has happened to him was no phenomenal affliction.
When a person takes a hit to the head, the brain knocks against the skull with ample force. The rubbery organ sometimes leaves a little too, and scars over. That kind of scar, gives you Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. In fact, NFL players more often than not, die before they hit 50. When they autopsied these four players, they found dark scar tissue in their brains, similar to what they see in Alzheimer’s patients. No one can be jolted into action the way those autopsy doctors can, actually seeing the damage with their own eyes. Sports head injuries are about real people, dying pathetically an undignified way. In a few years, all contact sports could carry a federal warning.
